Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between Malaysian Translators Association (MTA) and Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

On 4 September 2026, Malaysian Translators Association (MTA) has signed a  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), through the Academy of Language Studies (APB). The Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony were also held with other three industry partners: GoTechUp, O’Briens, and National Education Integration Council (MIPN).

The ceremony was attended by members of APB’s management and leadership team, representatives from the industry partners, distinguished guests, and academic staff. Among the distinguished guests were Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin, Vice-Chancellor of UiTM; Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Juliana Johari, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Industry, Community and Alumni Relations; and Associate Professor Dr Nor Fazlin Mohd Ramli, Deputy Dean of Research and Industry Linkages at APB, who was carrying out the duties of the Dean.

MTA and UiTM renewed their Memorandum of Understanding as a continuation of the collaboration first formalised in 2019.

Throughout the collaboration, various joint initiatives have been undertaken, benefiting both parties. These have included the co-organisation of conferences, collaboration in seminars and academic programmes, practical training opportunities for students, and the sharing of expertise and knowledge by academics. In addition, UiTM academic staff who are also members of MTA have contributed their expertise and support to various programmes organised by the association, including forums, public lectures, and training sessions.

During the ceremony, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin, Vice-Chancellor of UiTM, also highlighted in his speech the royal decree of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, which emphasised the importance of UiTM students acquiring proficiency in at least two foreign languages. This emphasis is in line with ongoing efforts to strengthen students’ language proficiency and communication skills, better preparing them to meet the demands of both academic pursuits and the professional world.

Strategic Academic–Industry Collaboration

In line with this aspiration, the signing of the MoU reflects the commitment of the MTA to strengthening strategic collaboration with academic institutions, particularly UiTM. This collaboration serves as an important platform for advancing the field of translation while connecting academic expertise with the needs and developments of the professional world. Through continued collaboration, MTA also plays an important role in providing opportunities for knowledge sharing, professional expertise and industry experience, benefiting both academic staff and students.
